The June 21st national launch of the Cancer Schmancer Movement was an overwhelming success! With the support of the media, we successfully spread our message across the country via major TV, radio, and print publications. In true Fran style, a high profile Cancer Schmancer launch party helped further bring focus to the cause.

At the Cancer Schmancer launch party, Gynecor, an anatomic pathology laboratory that distributes an early detection uterine cancer screening test called the TruTest, awarded us with a generous donation for our education outreach programs to help women learn the risk factors, early warning signs, and diagnostic tools available for early detection of women's cancers. The Borgata Hotel and Casino of Atlantic City showed their support by sponsoring the launch party and made a pledge to contribute towards our policy changing efforts.

This amazing week concluded with the news of the US Senate Appropriations Committee clearing 2008 funding legislation that included several references to the Gynecologic Cancer Education and Awareness Act, which we were instrumental in getting passed during the 109th Congress and signed into law by the President on January 12, 2007. According to the Senate Labor, HHS Approprations bill,"The Committee strongly urges the rapid completion of the evaluation of past and present activities to increase the awareness and knowledge regarding gynecologic cancers and the creation of a strategy for improving efforts to increase awareness and knowledge of the public and health care providers with respect to gynecological cancers." The clearance of the Labor, HHS Appropriations bill through the Senate and the White House is our ticket to launching a national education campaign on gynecologic cancers - the first educational campaign of its kind! This is the century of the woman. Can you feel it?
