Stress-Free Holiday Travel

If there is one time you want to be organized, it's when you are traveling. Whether you are traveling to the  beautiful Colorado Mountains or the Rainforest in Central America, there are a few things you should know before you go.

  • Plan Ahead - before you begin your journey research the weather and requirements for your trip.
  • Create a travel checklist of the things you absolutely need. Start this list as soon as possible and add to it as you go along with your day to day.
  • Create your itinerary: hotels, flights, restaurants, important phone numbers and addresses
  • Keep track of all important papers, passports, identification etc. Take photos of your important documents with your phone in case they become misplaced.
  • Pack light:
    • Plan outfits according to the weather, your activities and the events you will be attending.
    • Mix and match outfits, for example a few basic pants and/or skirts create several outfits. It is also a good idea to pack clothes that can be layered.
    • Ziplock bags are great for toiletries, makeup and can also be used for soiled clothing.
    • Tightly rolling your clothes saves on space in your suitcase.
    • Avoid packing too many shoes, they are heavy and take up lots of room.
  • Let friends or a family member know where you are going, how long you will be away and how to reach you.
  • If you will be away for an extended period of time cancel your newspaper delivery and put your mail on hold
  • with the postal service.
  • If you are traveling abroad contact your credit card company, just to avoid any red flags.
  • Also check with your cell phone service regarding their international plan.
  • If your home will be empty while you are away, hold off posting your travel plans on social media until after you return.
  • Be patient when you travel, often times there are delays - especially during the holidays
  • Stay hydrated - especially on long flights
  • Add a bit of surprise and adventure to your trip by leaving some time open in your itinerary.
  • If you are taking lots of photos, consider adding a description at the end of everyday.
  • Most importantly, enjoy, stay present and have fun!

Travel Safe!
