About Cancer Schmancer
Based on her second New York Times best seller, Cancer Schmancer, Fran Drescher launched two charitable organizations, the Cancer Schmancer Foundation and the Cancer Schmancer Movement, both dedicated to ensuring that all women with cancer are diagnosed in Stage 1, when it most curable. The Cancer Schmancer Foundation educates women on the risk factors, early warning signs, and tests that are available for early detection of women’s cancers. The Cancer Schmancer Movement advocates for improved women’s cancer healthcare legislation.
Fran Drescher has been described as a “Russell” —she has the comic timing of Rosalind Russell, the curves of Jane Russell, and the tenacity of a Jack Russell!
Fran received two Emmy and two Golden Globe nominations for her portrayal of the lovable ‘Miss Fine’ on the CBS hit series, The Nanny, a show she also created, and executive produced. An accomplished film actress, Fran won Esquire Magazine’s Five Minute Oscar for her memorable performance in the mockumentary, This is Spinal Tap. She has co-starred in countless films throughout her career with the likes of actors Robin Williams, Dan Aykroyd, Tim Robbins, and Billy Crystal as well as such esteemed directors as Rob Reiner, Milos Forman and Francis Ford Coppola. But she is most proud of her starring role opposite Timothy Dalton in The Beautician and The Beast, a film she also developed and executive produced.
Fran is an accomplished author. Her first book, Enter Whining, was a New York Times best seller which humorously described her experiences as an ordinary girl from

Most recently, Fran has been honored by the US Department of State with the distinguished position of Public Diplomacy Envoy for Women’s Health Issues to speak globally to women in Middle Eastern, Eastern European, third world, and emerging nations on prevention and education of women’s cancers.
Fran’s public speaking efforts encourage women everywhere to take control of their bodies, challenge their physicians and learn the early warning symptoms for women’s cancers. To this end, she has launched the Cancer Schmancer Movement, a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring that all women’s cancers be diagnosed while in STAGE 1, when it’s most curable. Fran’s vision is to galvanize women into one collective voice to alert our elected officials that our vote means more than that of the most powerful corporate lobbyist. Her goal is to live in a time when women’s mortality rates drop as their healthcare improves and early cancer detection increases.
