Cancer Schmancer: Happy Anniversary Fran!

Fran Drescher is celebrating her 11th year of being cancer-free today (June 21) and we wanted to say 'Mazel' to the newest member of our TV Land family!

The star of TV Land’s new sitcom Happily Divorced recovered from uterine cancer in 2000 and in 2002 published the best-selling book, Cancer Schmancer, where she detailed her struggles fighting the dreaded disease.
The book’s success allowed Fran to meet other cancer patients as well as fellow survivors.

It was then when she discovered that most of them were victims of not only the failure of their own bodies, but also of a severely flawed healthcare system – just like her.

“I felt betrayed by not only my own body, but the medical community,” Fran revealed.

Realizing that she needed to do something to improve women’s healthcare in America, Fran founded the Cancer Schmancer Movement on June 21, 2007.

“I have started the Cancer Schamancer Movement, and Cancer Schmancer Foundation to transform women from patients to medical consumers,” Fran wrote. “And to shift this nation’s priority from searching for a cure towards prevention and early detection of cancer.”

In celebration of Fran’s 11th year of life without cancer and the 4th birthday of the Cancer Schmancer Movement, we encourage you to donate to the organization by clicking here.

And don’t forget to support Fran by watching her new show Happily Divorced on TV Land this Wednesday, June 22 at 10:30PM/9:30c.
