Breast Cancer Survivor

I was working in a doctor's office in 1999 when I found a lump in my right breast. It hurt so I wasn't that concerned but the doctor I worked for set up a mammogram for me. I went and the radiologist came in and told me it was a "benign tumor" and nothing to worry about. He would get in touch with the surgeon and set up an appointment for me. I cried all the way home because I knew deep in my heart that it was cancer. I recieved a call the next day to go have a biopsy done. They would send the results to the surgeon. I went to the surgery appointment and when the doctor came in the room he told me his name and proceeded to tell they could do a mastectomy, double mastectomy or a lumpectomy! I looked at him and said "for a benign tumor"? He backed up and said "you didn't get the call"? I told him no and asked what call I was supposed to get and he said "you have stage three breast cancer"!
I was devastated but since my mom and 7 year old daughter were in the room with me I looked at the doctor and said lets set up the surgery date and get it out! I had a daughter to raise and did not have time to mess with being sick! I am now 11 years free of cancer! God bless all that have suffered and survived cancer.
