Uterine Cancer Survivor

In 2005, I started bleeding irregularly, so I went to a gynecologist that my co-worker recommended. My doctor retired, so I decided to go to this new doctor. I went to them a couple of times and I was told I was going through peri-menopause. They had me go for a blood test and they gave me a pap test and still they told me this was normal. Then my period became normal again, so I thought they were right. In 2007, it started all over again and I knew this was not normal, so I went to another gynecologist that another co-worker recommended. She gave me a more intensive test (endometrial biopsy) and I was told that I had uterine cancer. I thought my life was over. l had a full hysterectomy and was told that the cancer jumped into my ovaries and into a few lymph nodes, which the surgeon removed. I was also told that I was in stage three cancer, which scared me more than I can say. I had chemo for four months and then I had radiation therapy for five weeks. I was feeling okay after it was all over, but in 2008, I had a recurrence. My PET Scan said that I had a small cluster (about 3 centimeters in size). They didn't know if it was cancer, but because of my background, they were going to treat it like it was. I had five more weeks of radiation, with five more chemo sessions. I'm the only one I know who gained forty pounds during chemo (steroids did this). I can now say today, that I may be fatter, but I will be a three year survivor in June. Thank you for letting me share my story, sometimes it's hard to talk about it.
