Laughing From Behind...Memoirs of a Tush Gone Bad

I am a specimen of good health. And one day last year I chose to have my varicose veins treated. My husband is a doctor, so we thought nothing of it...that is until the ultra-sound test went crazy with noise! That was not supposed to happen! My groin area was the culprit, and we were about to embark on a new journey.....and a scary one at that! The ultra-sound is used to study the veins and their flow in the leg. But mine discovered a Cancer that was brewing in my body!!! And the only symptoms I had were a little swelling in the groin. (But my "Infectious Disease Doctor husband", Glenn, examined them for tenderness and thought they meant nothing.) Boy--was this "ivy-league",medical professor, published and practicing board certified specialist....WRONG!!!!! A biopsy was done immediately. And 24 hours later it came back as "squamous cell cancer". I thought, "you gotta be kidding". It must be a mistake! But now we had to find out where it was? Oye!! I was prodded and poked for 3 busy days until we found the "bugger". It was in my butt! I now was told that I had what Farrah Fawcett died from--Anal Cancer! Double "Oye"!! From that moment on...my book was born: "Laughing From Behind...Memoirs of a Tush Gone Bad." I had no intention of writing a book. This started as personal e-mails to keep friends and family abreast of my journey and progress. But I chose to use humor so as not to worry everyone----and yes,---I let myself get funnier and funnier to make it an "easier trip" for everyone. And I "breezed" through my chemotherapy and radiation. And ladies....it worked! I am cured so far...and we are "clean" post 1 yr. now. My statistics for recurrence are now at only 30% and dropping. And I have a hilarious book to show for it! But most importantly, my experience shows how laughter and a positive attitude can elevate the brain to help heal the body. Every Cancer is different and unique to one's body. But one thing is for sure: None of us know what life has in store! So it is imperative that we are able to focus on the present and take life "one day at a time". That is the key to survival in this crazy world. My book has been read by many who have encouraged me to get it published and get myself out there to speak to others. I am ready and willing to help. Cancer touches all of us in some way. It has no boundaries. Whether it enters our own body or that of a friend or family member, the feeling of fear and helplessness is always present. Cancer Schmancer is doing great things to help this cause, but each one of us can do more! We must work together to help the silent ones who bravely lost their battles. Our journeys, our stories and our teamwork can lead to better detection and finding the cures to each and every one of them!! Now raise your glass!!!! Amen and may God bless us all..."everyone of us".
