A mans story of his little battle with the C word
OK. I'm a man and this type of cancer doesn't apply to me unless my wife or female members of the family ever come down with it, but cancer is cancer one word that should not be in the human language! My story is I was diagnosed in 3/2008 with stage 4 Nasopharyngel Carcinoma. We all know stage 4 is as bad as it gets. We all know that when told that terrible word, life as we knew it was going to change and how it does! I finished an 8 week radiation and chemo treatment and was told on Oct 31 2008 I was clean! My cancer treatment caused another problem called a radiation necrosis tumor in my brain, which the only treatment due to all the radiation I had taken to extend my life was brain surgery! That's been done as of Feb 10 BUT now that I'm completely disabled, cancer is still haunting me and my family! I had worked since I was 16 till now. At 56 I'm not ready to "retire" but brain surgery and the assault of my body with radiation every day except for weekends and 6 chemos then blood clots, brain surgery and not being able to enjoy food life has changed for the worst but I'll watch my baby graduate from school and then see where life leads us. Disability is not fun! That's another story! To stay short listen to your bodies. Do as Fran did and if not satisfied ask again!
