Uterine Carcinoma Survivor
It was January 2007 when I started having very bad periods. I was waking up in puddles of blood and bleeding so bad I would feel dizzy and nauseated. I went to my doctor several times and was told that it was stress and my body was changing because I was getting closer to 30. I kept insisting to my doctor that something was wrong.
So finally in April my doctor did an ultrasound and found a fibroid tumor (as he called it) on my uterus. He gave me my options: birth control, Premarin, or hysterectomy. I kept choosing hysterectomy but each and every time he would say "No we can't do a hysterectomy- you're too young."
Well I tried birth control and it didn't work. Finally on Wednesday May 16th, I had to leave work because I began to hemorrhage. I went to the ER only to sit laying on a gurney to bleed for hours. Finally I was sent home and was told to call my doctor because I was only borderline blood transfusion. When called, my doctor only said "You'll be fine you have an appointment on Monday with me, take some iron see you Monday. "
Well I did, and when I entered his office all he could say was "Oh no something is wrong". I had a blood transfusion of 4 bags, and an emergency hysterectomy. A week later I found out that the fibroid tumor was uterine carcinoma Stage 2B. After 9months of chemo, 6 weeks of radiation I'm still alive. All because I listened to my body and kept insisting that my doctor take care of me.

Christina,
I'm glad you didn't give up until you had answers. I am horrified that so many doctors say it's "stress" when women have serious diseases, and don't look further. I had a terrible hospital experience with my uterine cancer surgery, and then my family doctor said "I'm glad you didn't have cancer" at my follow-up visit. I asked him didn't he get the letter? and he looked, and sure enough there it was a few pages down in my file, so he had to manually correct the records himself to show I had the disease. I worry how elderly, disabled, visually-impaired women navigate this crazy system, when young women and healthy middle-aged ones can barely get the care they need or get their records corrected?
bless your heart for the hell
bless your heart for the hell you went through BEFORE you even found out it was cancer. I had a few bouts of the blood pouring out of me like a water faucet. The episode I had a few days before my surgery was horrible. Anyway,I had the Uterine ultrasound and the uterine biopsy. The first report came back Uterine cancer, "grade 2". ( I dont know what that really means) I am older than you and I had a total hysterectomy- the tubes, ovaries, etc with the lymph nodes taken out also. The cancer did not spread to the lymph nodes and the path report came back STAGE 1 Uterine cancer. I just had my surgery a few weeks ago and I have not had chemo or radiation. I wonder if I should? Good luck to you and God bless you, in fact God Bless all of us.
