Remembering Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Darlings,

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and here at Cancer Schmancer we are honoring all women (and men!) who have been affected by this disease.  Did you know the American Cancer Society estimates that there will be over 230,000 new cases of Breast Cancer by the end of 2011? But dolls, there is hope!  When breast cancer is caught in Stage 1, the survival rate is 88%.  It’s our mission here at Cancer Schmancer to make sure that everyone is diagnosed in the earliest stages when it is most curable.

I bet you’re hearing a lot about the ‘Ta-tas’ this month, but do you know what to look out for?  Learn about breast cancer and some FAQ’s: http://www.cancerschmancer.org/articles/early-detection/frequently-asked-questions-about-breast-cancer

The most important thing we can do to win the battle with breast cancer is to find it early and nip it in the bud!  Do your monthly self-breast exam!  It only takes a few minutes and it’s so easy with these tips from the National Breast Cancer Foundation. http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/about-breast-cancer/breast-self-exam.aspx.  If you’re over 40, call your doctor and make an appointment for your annual mammogram!  If you have limited access, no worries!  Call our Early Detection Fran Van in New York and Los Angeles to see if you qualify for a free screening!

Los Angeles - 877-426-3926

New York - 800-564-6868 and visit http://scanvan.org/ for the NY screening schedule.

For our friends outside of these two cities log on to http://www.cdc.gov/cancer/nbccedp/ and the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP) will help you find free and low cost breast and cervical cancer screenings in your area.

Remember, early detection saves lives!

Be well my friends,

Fran
