Cancer, Schmancer

Hey, Angelina: You’re not the only actress who can do the whole diplomacy-humanitarian thing. Fran “The Nanny” Drescher on Monday was appointed a public diplomacy envoy by the U.S. assistant secretary of state for educational and cultural affairs, Goli Ameri.
A uterine cancer survivor, Drescher will focus on women’s health as she takes a tour of Eastern Europe later this month.

She joins baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken and Olympic skater Michelle Kwan as celebrity envoys.

To celebrate, Drescher dined at Morton’s downtown with fellow cancer survivor Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., and a handful of friends. Speaking of Morton’s, Drescher will also have a starring role in Morton’s next cookbook. Her favorite dish on the menu is the tomato, mozzarella and prosciutto salad, and she’ll be listed in the cookbook alongside the recipe.
