Spring Cleaning

Written by Kristal Moffett

This year I learned a wonderful new technique to help clean and freshen your living environment in a non toxic way.  I tried this on my home a few weeks ago for the first time and loved the feeling it left in my house.  My poor house had been slightly neglected and was feeling stagnant and blah.  I decided that the house needed a scrub and tried a technique my doctor had mentioned to me, a wall washing.  It was an absolute success!

Are You Ready To Rock A Non-Toxic Summer?

Summer is officially here and my kids are over the moon for it!! The outdoor play has begun! Longer, warmer days, pools, sun, bubbles, lemonade stands!! It’s all happening. I know if you are reading this blog you care about what you put in, on and around your family. Here is a list of quick tips to help keep you and your family toxin-free:

Just Because We Can't See It........

Have you ever heard of EMF’s?  EMF is short for Electro Magnetic Field.  EMF’s in really basic terms are invisible lines of force that come from all electrical and wireless devices.  There are two types of EMF’s, low frequency and high frequency.  Low frequency would come from everyday electrical appliances while high frequency come from wireless devices.  High frequency EMF’s also come from high power lines as well as cell phone towers.

Why Are Chemicals Considered Safe Before Proven Toxic?

I recently have been thinking a lot about our fight against the use of chemicals in our everyday products.  The idea that there are more than 10,000 chemicals used in these products.  That most of the 10,000 chemicals have never been tested.  That we are essentially guinea pigs.

Kirstal Moffett - How Safe Is Chlorine Bleach?

QUESTION

Dear Kristal,

I have an old house with the original porcelain farm sink, and the only way that I can keep things Iike coffee and blueberries from staining it is to spray it with chlorine bleach and let it sit overnight.  How safe is chlorine bleach, and are there less toxic alternatives?

Q: Dear Kristal, I've been usuing this "environmentally friendly" dish soap for years and thought it was okay, but after attending a Trash Cancer party, I'm wondering if there are any red flags.  Can you help?

Let's Get Clean!

In honor of this being Trash Cancer week, I wanted to share some of the recipes that I have collected over the last couple of years.  Since going through treatment for breast cancer I have become vigilant about what I put in, on and around me.  That being said, I try and use chemical free/toxic free products in my home, and it is so easy!  Almost everything you need to do this is already in your pantry!  I've narrowed it down to the following eight items:

Countdown to Trash Cancer!!!!!

This summer has been a very exciting time for raising awareness about the role chemicals play in our daily lives....about what we put in, on and around ourselves.

Kristal Moffett - Sunscreen

As I begin to include more time outdoors with the nicer weather, I have been thinking a lot about sunscreens and their benefits. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, my Vitamin D was really low. Not surprising as I was always slathered with sunscreen.

I stepped back and began to wonder if I really needed to wear as much sunscreen as I had been and if maybe a little bit of sun might be ok. I began to wonder if my sunscreen was doing me and my family more harm than it was doing good, but who is to really say?
