BLOG: WE THE FUTURE - Get Active!

Today's generation is one of the least active generations to date. We are more interested in video games, computers, TV shows and just being lazy. I know I  personally struggle with staying active and fit. So this week I'm going to highlight some activities that I find fun and great ways to get myself moving.

The first thing I really like to do is play a good round of golf. Most people think golf is a sedentary sport and does not require much athletic skill. Well, you've thought wrong, golf requires so many skills to work together. First of all, coordination is a must if you want to make a Tiger Woods-like swing or at least look like you know what you are doing. Secondly. a sense of balance, swinging without a sense of balance could cause you major embarrassment. Finally you need to have a bit of confidence, but not too much. Golf is a great sport to get involved with, especially if you are going into the business world. A lot of business deals are made on the golf course.

Another activity I enjoy is going for walks. Not a lot is required to go on walks, just two feet and brain to guide. My mother and I have a friend who lost almost 100 pounds from walking.  Her walking eventually turned into running and just a few weeks ago I ran a 5k with her. Walking is a great way to get away from the stress of today’s world. You can discover so much just from walking, my dad and I found an old cemetery in our neighborhood on a walk. Maybe you can get a start to a healthier life by going for a short walk one day and making your walks a little bit longer each day.

Water aerobics is also a great activity. Some fitness centers and swimming pools offer water aerobics classes. Water aerobics are great for those who have weaker joints because of injuries or age. According to some sports medicine professionals, athletes are using pools to run in to recover from injuries. The pool is low impact so the risk of injury is extremely low, but it also has a very high resistance and creates a great environment for building muscle.

The opportunities for fitness are endless! Try to find something to do today to be active. Post what you've done here, so we can all share ideas of what to do!

Good luck.

Move freely,
Summer
