Actress and author Fran Drescher detailed her inspiring and often laughter-filled journey of creating and starring in the hit CBS show “The Nanny” and then finding out she had uterine cancer — something it took two years and eight doctors to diagnose — at the 14th annual SmartWomen Luncheon and Expo on Wednesday.

“It’s like, for me, the trifecta because it’s about women empowerment, it’s about supporting women’s health at a great hospital institution and it’s about this fabulous, historic city, so thank you for welcoming me,” said Drescher to the sold-out crowd of 1,400 attendees at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center. Dreshcer was the keynote speaker for the annual fundraiser for St. Joseph’s/Candler’s Mary Telfair Women’s Hospital.

“... In our lives I truly believe that life unfolds with a purpose on our individual journeys of self-refinement and everything that comes our way, good or bad, is an opportunity for us to take it and make something positive out of it,” she said.
